Synopsis by Elaine Partnow:

Emilia--who thinks she has lost everything of value to her--rediscovers herself in the rich, dense labyrinth of the Louisiana bayous. When a mysterious man comes into her life, he leads her deeper and deeper into the strange but beautiful swamplands that hold his heart. There her suspicions about him start creeping in as surely as the kudzu that envelops the trees. After a series of bizarre and harrowing experiences, she finds the will to escape but eventually learns that loss can lead to love and suspicion can transform into trust.

My Review:

Here is a book that has it all - the mystery, the romance and the scenic beauty! The story revolves around the female lead- Emilia who traverses through a series of life altering events and is at an all time emotional low and happens upon a handsome hunk who fills her life with colors again - Only in the most mysterious and suspicious ways. There are a lot of loose ends that Emilia tries to connect and make sense of. There are a lot of twists and turns and the switches between romance and mystery has been balanced well. I caught myself thinking about the book even while I was not reading it and was trying to make time to read it as often as I could. You could say I was hooked! The most important and lavish part of the book is its in-detail description of the scenic beauty that is tied to your eyes. I could relate to a lot of feelings Emila was going through as I'm sure a lot of people would feel because it seems close to home.

I did not empathize with the protagonist , yet I empathized with her experiences and her journey. We relate to her not because she says anything poignant or life altering, but because her wide-eyed approach to life is something we cannot help but fall in love with. We all see something in Emilia, for better or worse.

Although the book is quite long, the conversational tone of the novel keeps you into a curious and eager state of mind. It’s an intriguing and tantalizing by all means and not a slow page turner. The best way I can describe the atmosphere of this book is a perfect window that helps you feel a sense of familiarity.

In all truth, this book has been combined really well and with so much sincerity and there are some good moments that puts a smile on your face. I was constantly trying to see what message is being conveyed in the story. Another thing which I appreciate about the book is its narrative style. The key factor here is that Elaine manages to keeps the readers engaged throughout with terrific writing.
